American Visions announces its eighth Artist workshop with Charles White -- this time in Historic Folsom, CA. Well-known landscape artist Charles White will teach the techniques of landscape painting. He'll begin with techniques learned from “Plein Aire” painters who work on location to quickly capture the changing light that occurs in nature, giving the artwork the reality it deserves. Students will go
on to complete an original with the delicate style that Charles White provides.

Charles has taught art workshops in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Tuscany and Vancouver. He has a unique ability to work with students, whether new to painting or professional artists-- giving each fresh views of looking at a setting and transforming it into a painted landscape.

Following the workshop on Saturday will be a champagne reception for Charles White and the workshop artists. Family and Friends are proudly invited to celebrate your art accomplishments and to give them the opportunity to meet the artist.

Materials Needed:

Oil or acrylic paints in these recommended colors: titanium white, yellow ochre, cadmium yellow (medium and light), cadmium red, Indian red, alizarin crimson, viridian green, Prussian blue, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, raw umber, and Payne’s gray. In addition, purchase one tube each of acrylic red oxide and white. It is best to have your own colors, however, if you are unable to purchase all of these, the instructor will have a few colors available for you to use.

Palette of your choice: paper, wood or plastic

Brushes: one small, medium, and large flat bristle. [One small round and one medium fan. One medium and one small filbert (synthetic OK).]

Canvas: 12x16, 14x18, or 16x20 stretched canvas or panel.
If you are trying to determine size for a specific area – you should add 10 inches for usual framing, making a 16 x 20 inch canvas 26 x 30 inches when it is framed.

Students who wish to bring a larger canvas may do so, but should consider that they may only be able to complete a portion of it in class.

Mediums: linseed oil, liquin, and odorless turpenoid.

Bring an easel of your choice and photos of desired subject matter. The gallery has extra easels to use if you do not have one – but be sure to tell them ahead so that they might reserve one for you.

Food: Lunch is on your own. Folsom has several restaurants to enjoy for lunch or you may bring your own. Coffee, water and tea are courtesy of American Visions Gallery.
