Tony Oursler’s witty and incisive videos, installations, sculptures, performances, and paintings often incorporate phantasmagoric sets and rambling narratives that serve to illustrate unraveling psyches. His early tapes of personal investigation and social reflection earned him a cult following among New York audiences. Oursler has collaborated with a number of other artists, including Constance DeJong and the band Sonic Youth. Oursler’s work has been exhibited extensively in the US, Europe, and Japan, including Metro Pictures, New York; Portikus, Frankfurt; and Documenta, Kassel. A book on his work will be published this year by Portikus. An exhibition of his work opens at Gallery Paule Anglim on April 4. www.tonyoursler.com
