Zine Fest Houston, MusicHeals Foundation and Objectif Magazine Host “Art + Music + Zine Party”
HOUSTON, TX, JANUARY 27, 2011: Zine Fest Houston, MusicHeals Foundation and Objectif Magazine come together to organize “Art + Music + Zine Party” celebrating DIY media, publishing, art and health care supported by the arts at Khon’s Wine Bar 2808 Milam St. in Midtown on Thursday January 27, 2011 from 6:30pm until closing.

“Art + Music + Zine Party” will feature a preview art auction benefiting mental health care by London based artist Chloe Stewart of MusicHeals Foundation UK. Her art explores the state and stigma of mental illness with a focus on opening the viewers’ eyes to the possibilities of healing. In her own words “I deal with the ‘human condition’ of ‘life in the mind’. Subjectively I paint about the importance of happy mental health.” Half of the proceeds from her art and print sales will directly be used to underwrite therapy and counseling for residents in the Project Row Houses Young Mothers Program via MusicHeals Foundation.

There will be an art performance from ms. Sandy and ms. Y. E. Torres. Sandy Ewen is a musician best known for her low tech approach to electric guitar. Utilizing a surprising array of found objects, she conjures a sonic spectrum rich in texture. Y.E. Torres a multidisciplinary artist/curator working in visual art including; photography, dance, costume design, drawing and collage will perform. Torres is well known for her invented characters and the exploration of their creation and life. She is co-founder of the troupe The Renegades and Their Collection of Carnies and performs with Architects of Cinema, an improvisational collaboration of movement, sound & light. There will be performances from CeeplusBadKnives of Reprogram Media, Houston indie band Another Run, Ash Semien of MusicHeals Foundation, Chek Records recording artist 3Bubble, Stephanie St Sanchez and more.

“Art + Music + Zine Party will be a super eclectic, kinetic, mash-up of art groups, artists and performances and all for a good purpose; to support some pretty important work being done in the community by three outstanding arts organizations. They are what makes Houston comparable to New York, LA, Chicago or Miami in terms of underground, outsider, influencer crowd scenes. They embody the zeitgeist of contemporary global culture” states Mo Roberts, one of the organizers of the event.
