The Heard-Craig Center for the Arts will add another chapter to their popular art history series with the "Texas Art History Series." The lunchtime lecture series will profile the story of art and artists in Texas. Beginning with early immigrant influences, the programs will follow the lineage of Texas artists from the 19th through mid-20th centuries.



The lectures are presented by Annie Royer who has been a studio and decorative painter/muralist for more than 20 years. Ms. Royer has a fine arts degree from Austin College; and has earned three Master’s Degrees from Yale University in Religion and the Visual Arts, East Asian Studies and the history of art. As Ms. Royer states, "the history of art in Texas is, like any good story, filled with characters, unfolding events, and underlying themes."



Ms. Royer’s lectures will be accompanied with a slide presentation and art from the Heard-Craig’s Texas art collection. The programs are provided at no charge in order to make art history accessible to anyone with an interest to learn more.

The programs will provide an introduction to the Heard-Craig Texas Art Symposium to be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009. The symposium will include lectures, round table discussions and an exhibit of the great Texas artists of the
1920s–40s.
