Art Gallery Week, 10 Days: 36 Galleries October 3, 2012

October 3-13, times vary; Wed Oct 3, 10am to Sat, Oct 13, 7pm

ART GALLERY WEEK will feature 36 internationally prominent Bay Area galleries located in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland and will offer a full spectrum of solo and group exhibitions by each of the participating galleries. To highlight the participating galleries' exciting programs, special, one-time cultural events will be presented to the public. The galleries featured in Art Gallery Week comprise an essential part of our vibrant arts community and exhibit at distinguished international art fairs of high caliber and distinction in cities like New York, London, Miami, and Basel. Each participating gallery will feature unique, provocative, and conceptual events such as performance art, artist talks, panel discussions with local curators and artists, poetry readings, open house, and live music.

We are also thrilled to announce that an influential California artist will be honored during this 10-day event for their long-serving and vital career in the arts - announcement pending. In addition, Art Gallery Week will benefit our community through engagement with various arts organizations citywide. In each gallery, an 'Art Box' will be set up to collect new, unused art supplies to distribute to the San Francisco Arts Education and Creative Growth Art Center. Art Gallery Week visitors are encouraged to donate art supplies to these integral organizations.

Art Gallery Week is a free, self-guided event hosted by internationally acclaimed galleries in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley and created to enable Bay Area residents and visitors to explore the dynamic arts community.

Complimentary refreshments and wine will be served at select locations. Special promotions for local eateries and shops will be offered, further promoting our culture of local and sustainable food!
