Art Gallery of NSW Course: From its Foundation to 1935 May 12, 2013

In March 1874, the NSW parliament voted to allocate 500 for the purchase of artworks which was the beginning of the Art Gallery of NSW collection. The following month, the first Impressionist exhibition opened in Paris. However the Gallery only acquired its first French impressionist painting in 1935.
