"""Hey DC, what are you doing Saturday, May 1st? Making the World a Better Place? Networking? Having Fun? How about all three?""
Bee LLC is proud to present:
Art for a Cause
What?
We present to you a chance to do all of this at a Networking Event and Happy Hour at Mezè for the organization CARE. We will feature entertainment by BROWNSTAR and Sulu Series!
Who?
CARE, a leading humanitarian organization, was one of the first responders to many of the recent natural disasters in Haiti, Chile, and South East Asia and continues to work in the affected areas to aid in the community, offering food, temporary shelter, clean water, sanitation services, medical care, family planning and reproductive health services, and seeds and tools
In a sky of black and white, a BROWNSTAR shines bright. BROWNSTAR, a spoken-word duo, bursts forth from the pens and dreams of emcee-poet-performers Pushkar ""North Star"" Sharma and Sathya ""South Star"" Sridharan. BROWNSTAR reveals its unique perspective while...asking those timeless, human questions about our world, our galaxy, and our universe.
Inspired by the Sulu Series in New York City, Sulu DC emerged from a need for visibility and a supportive community for AAPI artists in the greater D.C. area. The Sulu Series was named after Sulu of Star Trek, the first Asian American character to venture into the unknown galactic quadrant, and a remote island in the Philippines. In some Filipino dialects, 'sulu' can sound like 'sulo,' which means 'light.'
Why?
The intent of this event is to leverage performing art for the sake of charity. The devastation left by the Haitian and Chilean earthquake brought home the notion that a sustained response to natural disasters is the only way that areas ravaged by hurricanes, earthquakes, and other catastrophic events can truly recover and rise from devastation. Even after events leave the news reel, organizations responding to these tragedies continue to need the support of citizens. Through the arts, the creators of this event raise awareness and funds in support of organizations that are making a difference in the lives of persons affected by natural disasters.
When?
Saturday May 1, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Where?
Mezè, located in the heart of Adams Morgan, at 2437 18th Street NW, Washington, DC. The nearest metro station is Woodley Park/Adams Morgan. Valet Parking is available from Sun Valet Service. You will find a parking garage on the same block.
How?
Individuals can help by simply coming out and having a good time! We are suggesting that people donate $20.00 at the very least. Remember, it's for a good cause. We will ensure that 100% of funds raised at the event will be used to cover operating costs and supporting the ongoing work to aid disaster relief victims. Donations of over $10.00 will receive receipts for tax write-offs. Financial donations will be handled through Bee, LLC
