The Art Deco Society of California (ADSC) will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the organization with their annual Art Deco Preservation Ball and Awards, sponsored in part by The Phil Tagami and California Capitol Group. The event will be take place on April 28, 2007 at the City Club of San Francisco (155 Sansome, 10th floor, San Francisco, CA 94104).

The Art Deco Preservation Ball is sometimes described as "stepping into a Fred Astaire movie", with all attendees dressed in the vintage styles of the 1920s and 1930s, glamorous vintage cars parked in front of the City Club of San Francisco, and the entire eleventh floor turned into a grand ballroom. The City Club itself is housed in a historic Art Deco building in downtown San Francisco, and the interior includes a major mural painted by famed artist Diego Rivera, known for his work during the Art Deco period.

Craig Roberts of radio station KCEA will emcee the event, which will include multi-level entertainment amidst significant historic murals by Diego. KCEA is housed in the historic Menlo-Atherton
High School in Atherton, Ca, one of this year’s Preservation Award winners. For more on KCEA, see /www.kcea.org.

The ACSC is a non-profit organization that endeavors to increase public awareness of Art Deco and to preserve and promote the art, music, fashion, architecture and transportation of the era (roughly 1919-1941). The Art Deco Preservation Ball is held each Spring to recognize those who have preserved, or are in the process of preserving or restoring, Art Deco in areas including architecture, music and fashion. This year’s award winners are The Firehouse, Petaluma, CA, Scott Morse Residence, San Francisco, Fox Theater, Salinas, Radio Station KCEA, Menlo-Atherton High School, Former Headquarters for Henry Doelger, Builder, San Francisco, as well as honoring the City Club of San Francisco and Cherie Oliver, past president of the ADSC, with Certificates of Appreciation.

Along with the excitement of the awards presentation, the fabulous dance group The Decobelles with Rusty Frank, featuring Angie Major, this year’s Miss Art Deco, will perform. The Ball includes dancing to Don Neely’s Royal Society Jazz Orchestra and a “Continuous Cabaret” on the 10th Floor featuring Peter Mintun, a renowned musician from New York City, Connie Champagne, Ricky Quisol, Peter Mintun, Leslie Harlib, Jeff Gilbert, and Bob Dalpe & Mr. Rick of the Martini Brothers. There will also be a silent auction and a photo exhibit of Art Deco architecture in the Bay Area.
