Led by a Japan Society educator, children and their families receive an introduction to the Japan Society Gallery exhibition 'The Genius of Japanese Lacquer: Masterworks by Shibata Zeshin.' Participants explore the galleries through a facilitated lesson including movement, sketching and discussion. Shibata Zeshin displayed ingenious innovations and artistic virtuosity in his solutions to design challenges. Working with a professional designer and educator, children will learn about approaches to designing functional objects and make their own inro boxes.
