children the opportunity to achieve high quality academic standards

Art by the Inch

Youth Artworks and thirteen local professional artists from diverse artistic backgrounds will be painting during the week before the event, creating an enormous collaborative piece of art that will be shared with our community.

During the Art by the Inch event guests can enjoy light hors d’oeuvres while sipping martinis, wine or beer and listening to light jazz as they study the artwork. Volunteers will cut out the portion of artwork the patron has selected, the patron pays for their selection at 80 cents a square inch, and then can pick out mats donated by Art Source.

Art by the Inch is a wonderful way for those who support the arts to choose an original composition of their own. Part of the fun is to watch what small section of the painting appeals to each person and how they make their final decision.

All proceeds from art sales benefit the Homeless in Transition Program of Washoe County School District..

On site parking is available, we will have Parking Escorts to guide you from and to your car.

Dear Barbara,

We would like to invite you to participate in our 2nd Annual Art by the Inch, benefiting the Homeless Children in Transition program (a Washoe County School District program providing homeless children the opportunity to achieve high quality academic standards by eliminating barriers to their education).

Artists are needed to create a continuous painting on paper. The event will again take place at the studio on 4th Street, 432 East 4th & Valley Road, Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Each artist will have access to the studio on 4th , Dec. 1 – 5 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm or by special arrangement. You will have a 3' x 4' section of paper to paint on, with your section transitioning into the painting on your right and/or left depending on your location. If you participated last year you have a much better idea of how this works.

How it Works :
During the event the guests will be assisted by a volunteer designated to you and your painting. Mat boards with misc. sized openings will be located under each painting, and will be used to select the location and size of the painting the guest would like to purchase “By The Inch”. The volunteer marks the section and cuts it out, we encourage your attendance so that you can sign and/or embellish your little painting. The guest then takes their painting to the cashier, where they pay and receive a receipt to take to the matting table. All the mats are donated by Art Source. This year we will have the mats all set-up so the guests can easily select their mats.
