The Austin Lima Sister Cities Committee is presenting the art exhibition, Art Across the Americas, featuring Peruvian and North American painters and sculptors at the International Center of Austin, 201 E. 2nd St. Austin , Texas . The exhibition opening will be Saturday, October 3, 2009, with an artists' reception from 6-9pm, which will include refreshments, and music from Enrique Rumiche and La Guerrilla. Art work sales from the exhibition will go to the artists and to the Center for Adolescent Mothers, in Lima . In June 2009, the Lima chapter of the Austin Lima Sister Cities, organized an art exhibition of Austin and Limeno artists, at the Terrazas Club, in Lima . Some Austin artists featured in that exhibition were Rama Tiru, Jill Alo, Barbara Timko, Carmen Cannan, and Brandon White.

In addition, the Consul General of Peru, Sr. Carlos Polo, will be traveling from Houston to hold a Consular Day here in Austin , at the International Center . He will be providing consular services from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. He will also be attending the artists’ reception. Three Peruvian artists will travel to Austin for the exhibition, Nelly Mayhua Mendoza, Tatiana Avila Tello, and Angel Castañeda.

This year the committee will be honoring two artists who exhibited in past years, who passed away since our last exhibition, David Scott, resident of Austin , and the Peruvian artist Del Nino Ladron (Jose Humberto Guevara Hurtado).

Other Peruvian artists in the exhibition include Yolanda Velásquez Reinoso, Juan Manuel Fortun Huayhua, Carmen Rodriguez Arroyo, Antonio Migliori Ceffalo, Diego Alcalde Taboada, Cora Calderon, Daniel Contreras Castillo, Juan Pablo Vargas Salinas, Elvis Eyzaguire Escobar, and Luis Ernesto Mendoza Puma. Local Austin artists will include Barbara Timko, Brandon White, Melanie Wade Leslie, Linda Joyce Renz, Alonzo Rey Sanchez, Betty Jameson, Bill Oakey, Marla Ripperda, Ace Herrington, Vera Smith, Rhonda Payne, Tita Griesback, Trina Cook, Mohammed Razzaque, Debbi Smith Rourke, and Kelly Wagner Steinke. Admission to the reception and exhibit is free and open to the public. This is a wonderful opportunity for Austinites to see work from artists in one of our sister cities. The exhibition closes October 31st.
