Arere Kunhirama opens on a typical morning on a harbour where Kamalahaasa and his servant Timma are worried about the early return of Kamalahaasa's father, Merchant Manjappayaa. Kamalahaasa is worried because his father has come to know about his love affair and that he has decided to get him married to Saahukaar Sampatturaya's daughter.
