Are you talented, have a good ear, and really know how to make your instrument sing? Are you ready for some new and exciting performance opportunities? Then tryout for Youth Music Monterey! Membership is open by audition to students in Monterey County and beyond—from Salinas to Monterey, from Big Sur to Santa Cruz. The orchestras perform three concerts during the school year at the Sunset Center in Carmel as well as Sherwood Hall in Salinas. This is a great opportunity for serious musicians to receive the high-caliber training they need for success in school music, college and other adult pursuits. The groups study a variety of classical music, including modern composers. Instrumentation includes strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Auditions will be held at Monterey High School on 700 Pacific Street in Monterey Saturday August 29, 2009 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Deadline to register is August 14, 2009. Season begins Wednesday, September 9, 2009.

The Youth Orchestra (Young Intermediate Level Repertoire) has students from age 7 and older, and rehearses from 4:30 to 6:00 pm on Wednesdays, throughout the school year at Monterey High School. The Honors Orchestra (Young Advanced Level Repertoire) plays full symphonic scores and is open to students up to the age of 20 and rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8:30pm, also at Monterey High.

If you would like to learn more or visit a rehearsal, call the YMM office at 831-375-1992.
