Distinguished Guest Lecturers
The Human Protein Atlas: A proteome resource for cancer research & beyondDr. Anna Asplund, Researcher & Groupleader, Swedish Human Proteome Resource program, Institute for Genetics and Pathology, Uppsala University, Sweden
The Human Protein Atlas (HPA) is a publicly available database with more than 5 million high-resolution digital images showing the spatial distribution of proteins in 48 different normal tissues and 20 different cancer types as well as 47 different human cell lines (www.proteinatlas.org). Dr. Asplund is a group leader in the HPR and will discuss her research using tissue microarrays & how whole slide imaging has facilitated the HPA project.
Unbiased Stereology using Aperio ImageScopeDr. Paulette Herlin, Caen University, F. Baclesse Cancer Centre, Caen, France
Dr.Herlin has over 20 years of image analysis experience. She is currently in charge of the Group for the Analysis and Processing of Microscopic Images at GRECAN (the Groupe Rgional d'Etudes sur le Cancer). She will discuss her adaptation of stereology tools foranalyzing whole slideimages using the Aperio platform.

Digital Routine Histopathology: Kalmar's long & winding road into the futureDr. Sten Thorstenson, Department of Pathology and Cytology, Kalmar County Hospital, Sweden
Dr. Thorstenson is a consultant pathologists, an expert in breast cancer pathology, and a member of the European Society of Pathology Breast Pathology Working Group. Dr. Thorstenson is leading the initiative to use digital diagnostics instead of a microscope for all routine histopathology at Kalmar County Hospital.
Digital Pathology in Preclinical ConsultationDr. Maurice Cary, DVM, PhD, CEO of Pathology Experts, LLC, Basel
Dr. Cary is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) & is currently CEO of Pathology Experts LLC. Pathology Experts provides senior level preclinical research expertise, in the area of toxicologic pathology, to pharmaceutical and biotechnology sponsor companies. Dr. Cary will discuss how digital pathology is facilitating consults with expert level veterinary pathologists worldwide.
