This is to announce the next Apache Hadoop Get Together sponsored by Axel Springer and Smarthouse that will take place at Smarthouse in Berlin.

As always there will be slots of 30min each for talks on your Hadoop
topic. After each talk there will be a lot time to discuss. We head over
to a bar after the event for some beer and something to eat.

Talks scheduled so far:

Speaker: Martin Scholl
Title: On Firehoses and Storms: Event Thinking, Event Processing

Abstract:
The SQL doctrine still is in full effect and still does fundamentally affect the way software is designed, state is stored and systems are architected. Not only with the NoSQL movement, people have started to realize the way data is stored affects the full stack -- and that reduction of impedance mismatch is a good thing(TM). "Thinking in events" follows this tradition of questioning what is state-of-the-art. Modelling a system not in mutable entities (as with data stores) but as a stream of immutable events that incrementally modify state, yields results that will exceed your expectations.

This talk will be about event thinking, event software modelling and how Twitter's Storm can help you process events at large.

Martin Scholl is interested in data management systems. He is also a Founder of infinipool GmbH.

Speaker: Douwe Osinga
Title: Overview of the Data Processing Pipeline at Triposo

Abstract:
Triposo is a start-up focussing on building mobile travelling guides using a purely algorithmic approach. The first step in the process of building a travel guide for the planet is to combine the available Open Content information out there into a concise database of the world. Given the Google background of the founders, it is not surprising that the Triposo team borrowed many techniques from the search giant. In this talk we'll discuss the general overview of the data processing pipeline and go into what works and what didn't.

Douwe Osinga is a software engineer, entrepreneur and traveller. After 7 years at Google working on Search, Mobile and Google Wave in offices ranging from Zurich and Hyderabad to Sydney, he's back to running a start-up, Triposo. He lives in Berlin in an apartment without
furniture.

Please do indicate here if you are coming so we can more safely plan capacities.

A big Thank You goes to Smarthouse for providing the venue for free for our event as well as to Axel-Springer for organising the seating, the beamer and supporting videos being taped of the presentations,

Looking forward to seeing you in Berlin,

David
