Antique Carpets Collection at House of Raro. House of Raro has created an exquisite collection of world renowned carpets that are inspired ranging from the Mughal Empire, the tribes from Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Agra Jail' carpets and the Maharaja Kashmir carpets. These carpets are synonyms with rare style and beauty, which is both timeless and contemporary with flawless handcraftsmanship. Maharaja Kashmir Carpets: That was originated from the Mughal Empire under the patronage of the Mughal Emperor, Akbar who built the Taj Mahal in the memory of his departed wife Mumtaz in the 16th Century. The Maharaja Kashmir carpets are made out of finest wools that were imported from Manchester, United Kingdom and are normally found in high altitudes. These are pieces are mostly floral with very few geometric pieces in vibrant natural colors. Samarkand Rugs: The collection includes carpets that have been woven by tribal nomads who travel from place to place on horses near Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Some of these colorful pieces known as Samarkand' with both Chinese and Persian influences in them are really made by these tribes in their own tents. Agra Jail Carpets: These carpets are made of the finest wools, velvets, silks and sometimes even pashmina which is considered to be one of the most exotic fibres for weaving shawls for making these carpets with natural dyes and take a few hundred weavers upto 15 years to make a single carpet. These designs were rare and quite different from the traditional Persian, Turkish and central Asian carpets and a lot of these designs were original Indian patterns prior to the Mughal influence. The reason for these carpets being so rare is that very few of these exist today and have been able to survive the torrid Indian conditions. Kerman Carpets: The town of Kerman is in Eastern Iran, and has always been one the carpet weaving centers. Kerman carpets are highly prized because of the quality of design and colors. They are made of fine, lustrous wool, colored soft red, green, blue, yellow and ivory. The success of the Kerman carpets is mainly due to the skill of the pattern designers, called "ustad".
