The Source Gallery Presents The Antidote Exhibit

A Collection of Antidote Poster Art By B6

27 September 2007, Shanghai – SOURCE launches its newest exhibition in collaboration with the Antidote Shanghai in its gallery today. The presentation features Antidote poster art by designer B6 and this is the first time that the entire collection of posters are displayed together. The exhibition will run until 19 October 2007 and will be available for viewing free of charge. In addition to this, on the last night of the exhibition, there will be a party co-organised by SOURCE and the Antidote Shanghai to mark the end of the exhibition.

This is not the first time that the Antidote Shanghai has worked with SOURCE. The whole concept of the Antidote is as such – to “take the piss”, mock the status quo, turn expectations upside down and, at the same time, celebrate and share music and culture they like. Essentially, it is a gathering of a group of Shanghai-based digital musicians and DJs that provides free-for-all events with cheap drinks and live music that ranges from indie rock, punk, IDM and breakcore to left-field techno, trip hop, synthpop, and electro. Earlier this year, the Antidote Shanghai organised the after-party for one of SOURCE’s earliest exhibitions – Fear of a Young Planet. Consequently, both are on familiar ground and are determined to make this exhibition a roaring success.

As China’s first platform for international streetwear brands, SOURCE is focused on helping to develop the Chinese street culture. To them, street culture is not just large t-shirts and hip hop music; it is a way of living life – being carefree and totally fearless. As such, the store is constantly looking facilitate anything – from ideas to art and events – that might contribute to developing that ideal in China. Designer B6’s work is a prime example of such art. The Antidote poster art is controversial, sarcastic, humourous, sardonic, satirical but nevertheless visually inspiring.

SOURCE is also trying to bring a new concept of viewing exhibitions to China. The gallery is set up for people to relax among the art. Visitors to the gallery can sit down and have a drink while taking in the art on the walls.

To mark the end of the exhibition, a party will be held at the SOURCE gallery that will see six DJs spin over a period of three hours. After this highlight event, the party will continue on the Antidote bus which will transport revellers to the after-party which will be held at Atanu on the bund.

The Antidote Exhibit runs from 27 September 2007 to 19 October 2007. The SOURCE gallery opens from 11am to 10pm daily. For more information on the Antidote Shanghai, please visit www.urgentculture.com/antidote. For more information on SOURCE, please visit www.thesource.cn.
