Anthem Kentura is comprised of Anthem Salgado and music collaborator Ace Kentura. Anthem Salgado is a true multi-disciplinary artist who draws inspiration for his work from three disparate home cities: San Francisco, New York, and Manila. He is an alumnus of the prestigious San Francisco Art Institute, exhibiting in numerous spaces, including Oakland Museum of California, but it is Salgado's love of 'real time' language that inspired his role as poet and moreover, his live performances. With no formal training in literature, he is largely a self-taught writer who has shared billing in several cities with rainmakers: the legendary Last Poets, cutting edge author Jessica Hagedorn, Quannum electronic hip hop group ApSci, among many others. His microphone time would naturally evolve toward theater study. And as an actor, Anthem Salgado has created and performed original solo works in such reputable places as Asian Art Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and Intersection for the Arts. An active member to various communities, Anthem gives workshops and lectures (LEED Sacramento; San Francisco State University; University of San Francisco), and curates one-of-a-kind music and performance events at night clubs.
Hanalei Ramos is a Filipina-American community organizer, educator, and performer from Jersey City, New Jersey. She has toured around the nation to various college and university campuses as a spoken word artist, and has also been seen as a performer and panelist at GirlFest Honolulu, the National Asian-American Student Conference, the East Coast Asian-American Student Union, and the March for Women's Lives. She holds a degree in English and secondary education, and as a community artist educator, she has taught writing and poetry workshops to youth and senior women in the Jersey City and New York City area. Hanalei has also completed the Asian Arts Initiative's nationally modeled "Artists in Community Training" program (ACT.) Most recently, she has authored Letters to Martha, a personal testimony to her own experience as a survivor of domestic violence, and Foiled Stars, a collection of poems and prose. Her first solo performance work, Guns and Tampons: A History of Violence Against Women I Know , was created through the generosity of the Asian Arts Initiative (Philadelphia), and will be excerpted at the National Asian-American Theater Festival in New York City in June 2007.
