Vijay Tendulkar's 'Anji' presented by Nishumbita. This play was written during the 1970's and first performed on 28th march, 1981 at Delhi's - Sri Ram Center by Abhiyaan a performing group with actors like Shekar Suman, Lalit Mohan Tiwari, Sanjeev Sahay and others. Though written then, the theme is relevant even today. Henceforth an attempt is made to present the play in the yester year's style. Evil! What is 'evil'? Evil is everything that destroys a human being or the 'human' in a being. Unfortunately 'evil' does not exist outside ourselves but it lives within us- it lives on our prejudices, our feeling of a status, societal obligations, set definitions about world and limited inner sight. To think what would bring us close to being a 'human' one has to first understand one-self. With the 'evil' inside us thriving on so many internal fights do we recognize what the 'I' in all of us wants to do to become more 'human'? Well it sounds complicated and even controversial to think on these lines. But at some point every soul sees an outlet towards feeling liberated. And not all the time are these outlets healthy. Anji is also one of those souls who wanted to feel liberated and be much more human! It is the story of a woman who wanted to win against all odds. So much that she accepts a compromising situation in her life with vengeance to feel more 'Human'. Will you be able to face this reality? Test it yourself. As part of Hyderabad Theatre Festival.
