Every photographic image begins as an illusion: three-dimensional reality is flattened to two dimensions. The way the photographer makes use of light gives depth and a sense of reality to the photographic image. But on a deeper level, the photographer aims to illuminate and deepen the viewer's response to the subject portrayed in the photograph. In these images Jim and Angela George try to go beyond realistic representation by using light, color and form to create an emotional response analogous to what they felt when they captured an image, or when they imagined it in retrospect.
