Canadian singer-songwriter Andrea House makes her Cambridge debut, performing at All Asia on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 10:30pm. The Edmonton-based performer is celebrating the release of her second full-length CD 'The Same Inside' with a Northeast tour, including performances in Toronto, Cambridge, Philadelphia and New York City, and will be joined on stage with guitarist/husband Chris Smith. A well-known personality in Western Canada, Andrea is just now gaining the attention of US audiences. During her first US tour in August of 2007, fans of old country and rootsy folk were wowed by Andrea's humble yet powerful stage presence, clarity of voice, and lyrics that betray wisdom beyond her years.

A singer with a penchant for melody, Andrea’s voice is reminiscent of the great singers of the 1940’s and 1950’s and has been compared to Allison Krauss and Norah Jones. Andrea’s songwriting is one long love letter to both Willie Nelson and Ron Sexsmith. A full-time mother, Andrea's songs often focus on the beauty, tragedy and wonder of seemingly everyday life.

On her new CD, 'The Same Inside', Andrea is making an effort to see what lies beyond the customary folkscape of songwriting by combining country swing and folk roots with tinges of Fado, the Portuguese tradition of mournful tunes and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor. Sponsored by Canadian radio giant Rawlco Radio’s10K20 grant, 'The Same Inside' contains 12 original songs and one heartfelt rendition of ‘Stardust’, recorded in its entirety with verse (just as composer Hoagy Carmichael intended when he wrote the song in 1927). The CD also features the Strathcona String Quartet performing on ‘La Maison Délabrée’, a song written by Andrea in French translating to ‘The House that is Falling Apart’. 'The Same Inside' is the follow-up to Andrea’s much-celebrated debut full-length CD 'Heart’s Hotel', now in its second printing.
