Have you ever wondered what life was like for the Ancient Egyptians? Why the pyramids were built? What exactly was a mummy? Or maybe even how to read hieroglyphics? More than 5000 years ago, Egypt emerged as one of the most advanced and enduring civilisations of the ancient world. Ancient Egypt boasted incredible wealth and used it to create a culture rich in mythology and spiritualism that helped unify its people for some 3000 years. Over 31 dynasties, the pharaohs - living god-kings oversaw the lives of their people, constructed the pyramids - some of the most amazing structures ever built and forged a mighty empire along the banks of the life-giving Nile. Participants in this course will explore this fascinating part of history over five sessions. With an emphasis on hands-on activities, this course will help develop participants' understanding of Ancient Egypt through both historical and archaeological methods and extend it beyond popular myths that we so often see in books and movies. Explore Tutankhamen's tomb, discover the Rosetta Stone and re-create an Egyptian village on the banks of the Nile. This course is suitable for students in Years 5 to 6.
