Anat Fort 2011 PDX Jazz Festival Bridges and Boundaries: Jewish & African Americans Playing Jazz Together February 19, 2011

Israeli pianist and ECM recording artist Anat Fort creates music that subtly hints at her geographical origin. As a young performer in Tel Aviv, Fort was frequently compared with Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett. Now based in the United States, Anat Fort has become an important presence on the NYC alternative jazz scene.
Gentility is part of the pianist's vernacular, but she has some novel strategies for dodging the benign. Conflating Bach and Bill Evans is one tack; using a soft touch while simultaneously getting rambunctious is another. --Village Voice
