An evening with photojournalists Jordi Socías and Steve Schapiro June 5, 2012

In celebration of the opening of the photography exhibit Maremágnum by Jordi Socías, two of the most important photojournalists of the last half-century discuss their work and experiences with moderator Paul Berlanga.

Jordi Socías is the forefather of contemporary Spanish photography. He documented the upheaval and metamorphosis in post-Franco Spain of the 1970s and 80s, including the attempted coup on February 23, 1981. His portraits include Salvador Dalí, Jorge Luis Borges, Graham Greene, John Le Carre, Pedro Almodóvar, Francis Ford Coppola and Penelope Cruz.
Steve Schapiro documented the civil rights movement of the 60s. He photographed the Warhol entourage, Haight-Ashbury and the making of over 200 films including The Godfather and Taxi Driver. He has photographed Barbra Streisand, David Bowie, Samuel Beckett, Muhammad Ali, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Robert Redford and Cher.

Exhibit runs at Instituto Cervantes from June 5 to September 14, 2012.
