Richmond CenterStage is proud to welcome Balé Folclórico da Bahia to the historic Carpenter Theatre on February 14, 2011. This world-renowned 38-member troupe of dancers, musicians and singers will perform a repertoire based on Bahian folkloric dance and music of African origin that tells stories including those of Africans enslaved in Brazil and capoeira, a form of martial arts migrated from Angola. The popular Brazilian dance, samba, will featured along with the dance and music of Carnival! Founded in 1988, the company presents the region’s most important cultural manifestations under a contemporary theatrical vision.
