Join us for a special night of poetry with world renowned playwright, activist and poet Amiri Baraka.

He will be reading new works and discussing his upcoming jazz opera The Sisyphus Syndrome.

This future production will explore the Greek allegory of Sisyphus, the greedy king doomed forever in Hades to roll uphill a heavy stone which always rolled down again, symbolizing the constant battle of African-Americans to maintain and expand democratic space in American society. Working with a selection of 8-10 of Baraka's poems, David Murray will be composing music that compliments and gives voice to the work. This exciting new production will premiere at the Eastside Cultural Center in the Spring of 2008. This reading will be an opportunity to learn more about the project.
