February 1 – 11 (performances run Wednesday through Saturday, 8pm) Irondale and the French theater company, Scenes, team up to present the American premier of An Arab in My mirror written by Riad Cahmi and Philippe Vincent, directed by Philippe Vincent. An Arab in My Mirror has been featured at the Rawabet Space in Cairo, Egypt and at The Centre Choregraphique National in France. The piece will be performed in French and English by a multi-national cast. Irondale Ensemble member Scarlet Maressa Rivera will be a featured actress in this production, in keeping with Mr. Vincent’s tradition of casting a local actress in each country where the play is performed.

An Arab in My Mirror paints an intimate picture of the many different aspects of terrorism and the relationships formed between historic events such as the Algerian war and the Egyptian revolution through the eyes of the many, everyday voices that contribute to the common quest for answers and understanding. Six actors play a range of characters transforming from French nationals, foreign visitors, barbers, hostages, policemen, a stewardess, a bellhop, traders etc…all representing different generations in history from the sixties to the present day.

Philippe Vincent is the artistic director of Scenes, a twenty year old theater company based in France. Scenes share the same view point as Irondale, and create work with a social conscience that speaks to a wide range of communities about relevant issues, making this co-production of Arab in My Mirror a strong and meaningful partnership.
