Piedmont Virginia Community College and 214 Community Arts Center
present American Roots Music Showcase Sunday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m. on
the Main Stage of the V. Earl Dickinson Building. Tickets are $10 for
adults and $6 for students and seniors.
The event is presented in tandem with Virginia Discovery Museum's
latest exhibit, New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music and
will feature live performances by some of Central Virginia's best
bluegrass musicians, old-time Appalachian singers, swing dancers and
more.
Performers include:
• ACME Swing Mfg. Co. with the University of Virginia Swing Club,
presenting1920s-1940s
swing music and dance.
• Blue Ridge Irish Music School's Traditional Ensemble with
instructors Cleek Schrey and
Mimi Vidaver, performingtraditional Irish music and dance.
• Mira, singing Renaissance a cappella.
• The Charlottesville Tune School presenting old-time Appalachian
music and song.
• Uncle Henry's Favorites presenting old time Appalachian music and
song with band
members Pete Vigour, Ellen Vigour, Jim Childress and Mark Beall.
• Wednesday Night Regulars singing bluegrass.
