Cure by Design, which will take place at the historic Jefferson Hotel on September 10, is an event in which the Richmond fashion, design and retail communities join forces to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Honorary Chairs Tim and Daphne Maxwell Reid, and Virginia’s First Lady Maureen McDonnell, will welcome the Richmond community to celebrate cancer survivors who are celebrating more birthdays.

The main event of the evening is a fashion show featuring fashions from both national and local designers and retailers, modeled by cancer survivors of all ages. Featured designers include Alex Garfield and Tommy Hilfiger of New York along with Montoya of Richmond.

Designer Johnathan Kayne from Season 3 of Bravo’s hit show “Project Runway” will make a special guest appearance at the event and will be dressing four models in the fashion show. During his time on the show, Kayne won a challenge in which he created a gown for the reigning Miss USA, Tara Conner, to wear when she competed in the Miss Universe Pageant.

The event will last from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., with the itinerary including a cocktail reception, silent auction, survivor fashion show, live auction, and a survivor reception. Guests will enjoy the chance to bid on exciting auction packages, such as weekend getaways, restaurants, wines, jewelry and original art. Tickets are on sale now for $125 each.

A cast of nearly 50 survivor models including men, women and children will walk the runway to celebrate the diversity of cancer survivorship. The advertisements for this year’s Cure by Design, photographed by Todd Wright, spotlight the event’s oldest and youngest models, Lucille Roane (81) and Jaylen Chavis (18 months).

Those who wish to purchase Cure by Design tickets should visit the event’s website, www.curebydesign.org, where they have the choice of placing an online order using a credit card or printing off an order form. Tickets can also be purchased at the local American Cancer Society office.
