America Recycles Week Activities
Theme: Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!
November 14-18, 2011

TEACHERS INCORPORATE RECYCLING AND CONSERVATION INTO INSTRUCTION!
Teachers will discuss recycling and conservation with their child(ren)! Students have also received fun recycling enrichment activity sheets to further educate them on the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling!

CLOTHING DRIVE
The student council is hosting a clothing drive throughout the week. All types of clothing items are being accepted. Students should bring donated clothing in a bag.

AMERICA RECYCLES DAY POSTER DESIGN / COLORING CONTEST
Students have the opportunity to participate in a recycling poster design / coloring contest. Teachers will be submit ting their Top 5 entries. Awards for best posters! Entries from home are also accepted!

AMERICA RECYCLES BANNER COMPETITION
Classrooms have the opportunity to participate in a recycling banner competition! Banners should be completed and on display outside classrooms for judging. Competition will be by grade level and school-wide. Best banner by grade level will receive a special award. Best banner school-wide will have a recycling party.

LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN

Students are encouraged to participate in a letter writing campaign to The Clarion-Ledger or government officials to encourage recycling. Students may also write a poem or rap about recycling. Awards will be given for best writing! Entries from home are also accepted!

RECYCLING ART CONTEST
Parents and guardians—please allow your child(ren) to bring in a recycled project for display made from trash (paper, aluminum foil, cardboard, milk cartons, etc.) The winner of this project will receive a free dinner at Chili’s Restaurant. The project should be labeled with Title, Student , Grade and Teacher.

COLLECTION COMPETITION
Which class / grade level can collect the most plastic or paper by the end of the week.
