The Alma Villegas Quintet announced that they will perform at a special CD Release Party at the University of Washington's Ethnic Cultural Center on June 6, 2010.

The all-ages event will showcase songs from the group's second full-length album entitled ALMA Y AZUCAR. With the addition of several new musical elements (including violin, tres and trumpet), it promises to provide a colorful blend of many Latin styles. The quintet has been in the studio for months recording their new CD. Alma Villegas can't wait to unleash their bold new offering upon an eager fan base.

"We are very excited to introduce these new selections with all of the additional instrumentation including trumpet. These songs are my very favorites of all-time. They keep me connected to my youth in Mexico and the beauty of my cultura Latina. A culture with no boundaries - no borders. A culture I am proud to represent with these songs. I hope our fans enjoy them, I hope they revel in their magic."

Since 1998, Alma's lustful voice has brought Northwest audiences exquisitely energetic and passionate renditions of a variety of Latin flavors. She began her professional music career performing with two of Seattle's most popular Latin ensembles, Cambalache and Yerba Buena. Her experiences led her to form her own band in 2000, to break out of the salsa mold and offer up a more multi-cultural and diverse selection of styles. With Ben Verdier (Grupo Ashe, Charanga Danzon) on keyboard, Ricardo Guity (Garinagu, Global Heat) on congas and bongos, Ernesto Pediangco (Trio Paraiso, Mambo Cadillac) on timbales and Steve Okimoto (Dudley Manlove Quartet) on bass, the Alma Villegas Quintet repertoire includes traditional bolero (Latin ballad), cha-chas, mid-tempo Latin jazz standards, a variety of Cuban rhythms, salsa and bossa novas. Alma, a tri-lingual singer (English, Spanish and Portuguese), anchors the collaboration with her strong, sultry alto vocals.

The Alma Villegas Quintet stepped into the studio earlier this year to capture what they collectively consider the best of all Latin genres gleaned from a staggering catalog of music dating from the 1930s to the present day. ALMA Y AZUCAR is the stunning result.

The Alma Villegas CD Release Party and Performance will be held on Sunday, June 6th from 3PM - 5:30PM at University of Washington's Ethnic Cultural Center Theater, 3940 Brooklyn Ave. Seattle, WA 98105.

Tickets are $20 in advance / $25 at the door. $30 for a ticket plus a copy of the album. Tickets are only $10 for kids 16 and under.
