“AN EVENING OF JAZZ” TO BENEFIT ALLI’S JOURNEY
AT THE TELUS CENTRE FOR LEARNING, KOERNER HALL
ON JUNE 1, 2011 AT 7:30 PM

What: Toronto, Ontario – Alli’s Journey is proud to announce its “First Evening of Jazz” with David Warrack and The Canada Pops Orchestra, joined by six of some of Canada’s top jazz perfomers. Peformances by some of the most talented Jazz artists in the Canadian music scene will tantalize audiences with sultry sounds of the saxophone, sweet blues, and delightful vocals in an unforgettable evening dedicated to raise funds for Alli’s Journey, a non-for-profit charitable organization that supports young adults with cancer. The “Evening of Jazz” will include a line-up of stellar national talent, including 2011 Juno Award winner Kellylee Evans, the renowned Latin Jazz singer Amanda Martinez, Shakura S’Aida, 2011 winner of the Maple Blues Best Vocalist of the Year, Era Chorna, a Canadian Jazz rising star, Sophie Berkal-Sarbit, and John Alcorn, a 2009 National Jazz Artist nominee.

Where: Koerner Hall at the Royal Conservatory of Music in the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, 273 Bloor Street West, Toronto (at Bedford Rd. and Bloor St W – St. George Subway.)

Why: Since its inception in 2006, Alli’s Journey, has raised funds to support initiatives for young adults ages 18-35 with cancer. The first of its kind, the Alli’s Journey Comfort Room, will be dedicated to support young adults with cancer, and will be located in the new Wellspring house on the Sunnybrook Hospital Campus. This concert’s proceeds will go towards building this sanctuary for young adults fighting cancer. This will be the first room dedicated to this cause in Canada.

About Alli’s Journey:

Alli’s Journey is a non-profit charitable organization created by a young woman named Alli Shapiro Amar. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer at the age of 19. While enduring treatment, Alli and her mother, Pam Shainhouse, noticed the lack of resources for young adults with cancer. This made them determined to raise money for the young adult cancer population (ages 18-35). While Alli is no longer with us, leaving us at the age of 26, her memory lives on through the cause.

In addition to the annual benefit concert, www.allisgifttoyou.com is a website for “Alli’s Comfort Bags.” These phenomenal bags will be made available to any young adult diagnosed with cancer at Sunnybrook, Mt. Sinai and Princess Margaret to name a few.
