Riverside Productions presents the World Premiere of
All the Blood and All the Water
by Suzie Miller
Riverside Productions proudly presents the World Premiere of a new Australian play ALL THE BLOOD AND ALL THE WATER at Riverside Theatres from Thursday 8 May. There will be seven performances for schools as well as seven general public performances. Written by one of Australia’s most exciting new playwrights, Suzie Miller, this timely play won the Theatrelab/Inscription Holmes a’ Court Award which entitled it to a two-week workshop with Edward Albee.
ALL THE BLOOD AND ALL THE WATER is about the love between two best mates, sex, mateship, family, vulnerability, culture and the traps of stereotypes. It tells the story of Angel, who is forced to choose between family, friends and the girl he loves, and stars an ensemble of talented Australian actors: Fayssal Bazzi, Emily Brennan, Sean Barker, Patrick Dickson, Johnny Nasser, Billie Rose Prichard and Will Snow.
In our multicultural world, when is blood thicker than water? And which blood is your truth? Angel is 17. He loves hanging out at the beach and catching a wave. Honey, the girl he is falling for, is an Anglo-Aussie like Ryder, his best mate through school. Angel’s dad is a Muslim from Iraq, his mum a second generation Italian-Australian.
When Ryder’s older brother Jax is released from prison there is pressure on Angel to choose between his two worlds. Is he an ‘Aussie’ or a ‘Muzzo’. Faced with betrayal, he must decide between his family and the world he thought he belonged to.
“I felt a need to celebrate the relationships I had observed which ran counter to the media scare campaign,” said playwright Suzie Miller. “In young Australians of all backgrounds there is still somehow some intuitive 'mate commitment' amongst those they trust regardless of background or race. I was moved by how important those friendships were and how we need to protect and celebrate them.”
Fayssal Bazzi (Angel) has experience in stage, television and film. On stage he has been seen in Lord of the Flies for Stablemates, Cross Sections for the Opera House Studio and 100 for the Alchemy Theatre Company. Television work includes renowned Australian dramas such as All Saints and East West 101.
Emily Brennan (Honey) has been previously been seen on stage in productions such as Actors at Work for Bell Shakespeare and Comedy of Errors for Deckchair Theatre.
Sean Barker (Jax, Blake) recently appeared at the Stables Theatre in Motortown. He was on screen in the feature film Noise, and on television in Stingers, Wildside and Blue Heelers.
Patrick Dickson (Ali) previously appeared at Riverside in King Lear and Hamlet, and starred in For the Love of Alma Mahler for the Sydney Opera House. He has been seen in television programs such as Carson’s Law and Sea Change.
Johnny Nasser’s (Aziz) stage credits include Wilde Tales and Vampirella for the Darlinghurst Theatre Company and Julius Caesar for the Lyric Theatre Co. He has been previously been seen in Australian television series Stingers.
Billie Rose Prichard (Lola) has been seen on screen in the films Candy and Me Myself I, and at Belvoir Street Theatre in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Will Snow (Ryder) recently starred in two plays that were finalists in the 2007 Short and Sweet competition, as well as The Removalists at the New Theatre and on television in All Saints.
