After over 5 years as a principal soprano for Opera Australia, Ali McGregor is now one of the country’s most exciting cabaret artists. Since launching her Opera Burlesque cabaret show in the Famous Spiegeltent in 2005, Ali McGregor has been bitten by the cabaret bug. Now she brings her sexy jazz cabaret show Ali McGregor’s Jazz Cigarette to Riverside Theatres on Saturday, 21 May at 7.30pm.

Ali McGregor’s Jazz Cigarette is the perfect platform for this versatile artist. Backed by three of Australia’s finest jazz musicians she brings her ‘smoochy elegance’ to classic jazz ballads and the sassy blues made famous by Billie and Ella. Ranging from Gershwin’s The Man I Love and Hoagy Carmichael’s Georgia on my Mind to interpretations of Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams and Britney’s Oops I did it Again, the night is packed with unique interpretations that McGregor has become known for in the clubs of Melbourne, New York, London and Edinburgh.

Award winning opera star, Ali McGregor most recently sang the title role in Lehar's The Merry Widow for Melbourne Opera. She is a regular guest on ABC TV’s Spicks & Specks. McGregor featured in the hit show La Clique in the Famous Spiegletent where she also launched her own shows including Opera Burlesque, which opened up the realms of cross genre cabaret and The Late Nite Variety-Nite Night that cemented her reputation as a consummate host and performer. McGregor has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals including Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne Comedy and Adelaide Cabaret festivals. McGregor recently hosted a new show Curiosity killed the Cabaret for BBC Radio 4 during this year’s Edinburgh Festival.
