Aleks and the drummer are consistently described as difficult to describe.

Sad dance music, victorian surf-rock, circus prog-rock, "gypsy emo"--(liz armstrong, chicago reader) lush nightmares, agile evasion and dramatic escapes, electric polka, frantic love, red alarms, "krautrock to punk-rock speeds"--(myles raymer, chicago reader) heart-felt nintendo suspense, something secret of a slavic past, pagan ritual and ancient repetition, pseudo-symmetry and detail of paper cutouts, shyness focused to laser force, etc.

The only conscious effort is to push 3 simple elements to their potential: drums, organ, and vocals. The result is a finely woven, yet somehow simple and catchy distinctive sound.
