The legendary Fela Kuti created a new form of music in the late 1960s, a sound that incorporated music from many cultures along with dance-hall music styles from his native Nigeria. This sound was named Afrobeat and became a musical masterpiece. With its driving, precise rhythms, soaring horn lines and a groove so infectious, it's impossible not to dance. In March of 2002, six members of an established New York City Afrobeat band left the band to create a new band in which all voices, opinions and musical ideas would be heard.
