On Saturday, March 3, 2007, Mark Keali‘i Ho‘omalu and the Oakland-based Academy of Hawaiian Arts will present the original production, ‘AKOLU, at the Rawley T. Farnsworth Theatre at Skyline High School in Oakland, CA.

With ‘AKOLU the Academy will, in its celebrated fashion, perform original, modern dances honoring the Hawaiian monarchy and paying tribute to Hawaiian legends. Introducing new songs and dances created by Ho‘omalu, ‘AKOLU will serve as a Northern California preview of the
dance concerts the Academy will perform during an extended run in Japan in the summer of 2007. Ten Japanese dance concerts are scheduled, and Ho‘omalu and the Academy dancers are expected to entertain at least 20,000 during this run.

‘AKOLU, which means “third” in Hawaiian, is the third dance concert put on by the Academy of Hawaiian Arts under Ho‘omalu’s direction. The Academy’s first two shows, “Ke Ao Hou” and “‘Alua” as well as an Academy-wide recital, “Ho‘okahi,” were performed before capacity
crowds.

Complementing the Academy’s dances will be popular Hawaiian performers Hoku Zuttermeister and Ioane Burns. Reprising his role as Master of Ceremonies for the Academy will be Master Chanter Charles Ka‘upu of HAPA fame.

Tickets are $35 available thru www.AHAhula.com or in person at Sun Jose Hawaii (877.786.5673).
