In 1990, Louise Fili started a design studio focusing on three areas that interest her most: food, type, and Italy. Twenty years later, she has a body of work that includes restaurant identities, specialty food packaging, and books---all of which are Italian-inspired.

New York-based Fili mines the past for inspirations for her contemporary designs, which can be seen in the logos and menus of restaurants across food Mecca NYC, as well as the product packaging for major food companies, such as Williams-Sonoma. Fili seeks out old typefaces, books, and products from flea markets to meld the design ideas of the past with the new. She has earned three James Beard nominations and was selected in 2008 to re-imagine the Good Housekeeping seal of approval. In 2004, she was inducted into the Art Directors Hall of Fame. This lecture is part of Design Tastes A 3-part AIGA Colorado programming series to explore the intersection of food and design through the commonalities of approach and style among designers Louise Fili, Louis Gagnon and Matteo Bologna.
