Showing is part of the Harlem Goes West exhibition at the Eiteljorg Museum

INDIANAPOLIS - As part of the Harlem Goes West exhibition, the Eiteljorg Museum’s young professionals auxiliary will host a late-night, outdoor showing of the cult comedy classic Blazing Saddles on Thursday, July 3. Guests can kick off the Fourth of July weekend watching this raucous film, while enjoying movie snacks and a cash bar along downtown’s Central Canal.
The film will be shown on the Kincannon Learning Circle on the grounds of Eiteljorg Museum. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Unlimited popcorn, one movie candy and one non-alcoholic beverage are included with admission. A cash bar will be available. Showtime is 9:30 p.m.
Museum hours for the main level galleries have been extended for this event. Guests should plan to arrive early and see two great exhibitions at the Eiteljorg: Harlem Goes West: The Black Cowboy in Western Films, of which Blazing Saddles is a part of, and Yosemite: Art of an American Icon and Camp Yosemite. The galleries will be open from 8:30-9:30 p.m. Jason Housley, adjunct professor in the African American and African Studies program at Indiana University, Indianapolis, will provide an introduction to the film at 9 p.m.

Advance tickets are now on sale for $10. Tickets will be sold at the door for $12. Admission is free for current Agave members and those who sign up for an Agave membership at the door. Agave membership is $30 for the first year. To purchase advance tickets, contact Cally Klaubo at (317) 275-1310 or [email protected]. There will be no physical tickets, only a list of pre-paid attendees at the door. This event is for adults 21 and older.
In the case of rain, the film will be shown inside in the Clowes Sculpture Court.
About the film
Blazing Saddles (1974) is the ultimate Western spoof -- a town where everyone seems to be named Johnson is in the way of the railroad. In order to grab their land, Hedly Lemar, a politically connected nasty person, sends in his henchmen to make the town unlivable. After the sheriff is killed, the town demands a new sheriff from the Governor. Hedley convinces him to send the town the first black sheriff in the West. Bart is a sophisticated urbanite who will have some difficulty winning over the townspeople. (Rated R, includes sexual references, profanity, racial humor) Read more at IMDB…
