Democratic Women & Friends of AU is hosting a public screening of AFGHANISTAN: THE LOST TRUTH, a film by YASSAMIN MALEKNASR. The screening will be held at 8:30 PM on Thursday, November 17th, 2005 in Ward 2, in the Ward Building at American University.

Shortly after the fall of the Taliban, Iranian filmmaker and actress Yassamin Maleknasr embarked on a remarkable 3000 mile journey across the vast landscape of Afghanistan from Herat to Balkh, the only woman and filmmaker to have traveled such distances since the fall of the regime. Her resulting film, Afghanistan: The Lost Truth, is a fascinating look at the people, culture and landscape of the country?and the optimism that endures despite the countless tragedies the country has suffered. In her film, Maleknasr captures the voices of the Afghan women she met on her arduous and dangerous journey inside the domain of the Taliban.

Democratic Women and friends of AU (DWFAU) is proud to present this unique voice and incredible story.

A question and answer session with director Yassamin Maleknasr will directly follow the film. Ms. Maleknasr will also be touring the Washington, D.C. area throughout the month of November promoting her self produced film.

With a keen focus on progressive Democratic women?s issues, DWFAU aims to provide students with an accessible, informative, and effective vehicle to address issues facing women in academic, political, professional, and social fields.
