5A Street and 3 Avenue NW
Calgary, Alberta

Join us for an Affordable Housing Rally
on Sunday, June 10, 2007-Noon to 1PM at
New Edinborough Park; 5A Street at 3 Avenue NW (Sunnyside).

The Calgary Housing Action Initiative (CHAI) is asking the Alberta
Government to protect vulnerable Albertans from excessive rent increases while an adequate supply of affordable housing is built.

There will be speakers who are facing eviction, the raging Grannies, and politicians (hopefully including Conservative MLAs in Calgary who are in favour of temporary rent controls).

The rest of the afternoon on June 10th is the Healthy Parks party to celebrate pesticide free parks in Calgary. There will be music, food and games.

For those who have had an excessive rent increase, CHAI is asking them to phone Ray Danyluk, the Alberta Housing Minister, and ask Ray to help them. Go to

for his contact info.

Redmontonian

A new grassroots (and explicitly non-partisan) coalition dedicated to the fight for affordable housing has formed in the last couple of weeks up in Edmonton. Albertans Demand Affordable Housing (ADAH) is an attempt to unite all the groups in the province working on this pressing issue, and though we are a collection of activists in Redmonton for the moment, we hope to work with other groups and help turn this into a mass movement.

A number of us were thinking of coming down for the CHAI rally on June 10th as a show of solidarity if nobody has any objections. Feel free to drop us a line at [email protected] with any thoughts you may have. Cheers!
