Host: America’s Future Foundation. We’ve all heard the dreaded question at some point in our liberty-advancing careers: Why don’t you get a real job? Usually it comes from a well-intentioned family member-maybe even your mom. Perhaps they are concerned about your ability to make a living working at a non-profit organization. “All that Ramen can’t be healthy,” they say. “The private sector pays much better.” What is the best way to respond? Is it possible to make a long-term, successful career out of fighting for liberty, or are we better off putting in our time in the movement then departing to find “real” (i.e. private sector) employment? Are people who go for-profit “sell-outs” and, if so, is selling out inevitable?
