Encaustics are a wax-based medium used since Greco-Roman times to create luminous colors and textural surfaces. Learn how to paint in this exciting process of pigmented waxes and experience hands-on the basics of safety, supports and grounds, and creating surfaces, line, and edge. Some supplies provided.SuppliesI will have with me the tools I use to create texture in my work for you to use. If you have anything that you would like to try please bring it with you. Ideas for mark making tools: dental tools, ceramic trimming tools, palette knives, cookie cutters, anything that you think will make an interesting mark.Basic artists tool box: scissors, single edge razors, a tool you can use to burnish with (spoon will work just fine), pencil, masking tape, ruler or straight edge. Roll of waxed paper (for wrapping finished work)Collage materials: Xerox prints (if you dont have access to a Xerox machine I will have images with me, drawings, handmade papers, newspaper, book pages, wire, beads, fabric, and small objects to imbed. Anything you would like to collage but avoid plastics and any type of synthetic materials.If you have a heat gun at home please bring it otherwise I will have 2 to share.
