Adopting Software Process Models: Risks, Rewards and a Reality Check!

There is increasing industry buzz in software development concerning the cost/benefits associated with adoption of formal software engineering process methods. The web offers a seemingly endless brew of process methods, styles, tools, industry consortiums, and an alphabet soup of commercial approaches (RUP, EssUP, XP, Agile, OpenUP, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.) as solutions to the most vexing software engineering problems. Where's the truth in this, and what are some of the key lessons learned thus far?

Our July meeting will explore the practical issues around software engineering process methods with a panel of distinguished industry thought leaders and practitioners representing the popular process methods in broad use today.

We are very excited to hear from experts on the pragmatics, risks and cost /benefits that every business should be aware of in moving toward adoption of formal methods and software engineering best practices.

Panelists Include:

Alan Shalloway is the founder and CEO of Net Objectives. With 35+ years of experience, Alan is an industry thought leader, trainer and coach in the areas of Lean Software Development, The Lean-Agile Connection and using Design Patterns in agile environments. Alan has developed training and coaching methods for Lean-Agile that have helped his clients achieve long-term, sustainable productivity gains using the methods.

Alex Rush is an independent software engineering professional with over 20 years industry experience. Prior to founding ExperShare, LLC in 1999, Alex held executive positions with KPMG Peat Marwick, Computer Sciences Corporation and Agilent Technologies. Alex's current work with ExperShare is focused largely on software engineering process improvement including pragmatics of formal and lightweight process methods.
