Light City Derby, Adelaide’s only Senior Mixed-Gender Roller Derby league, is on the lookout for new talent and will shortly be beginning its next intake round.

Roller Derby is a contact sport played by two teams of five members roller skating in the same direction around a track. Game play consists of series of short match ups ("jams") in which both teams designate a scoring player (the "jammer") who scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. The teams attempt to assist their own jammer while hindering the opposing jammer - in effect playing both offensive and defence at the same time.

Roller derby is played by more than 1,000 amateur leagues with over 250,000 participants spread across every inhabited continent. It is also touted as the fastest growing sport in the world today.
Dating back to the early 20th century, the present incarnation of modern roller derby is an international sport dominated by all-female amateur teams, in addition to a growing number of male, co-ed, and junior roller derby teams - primarily in the North American and European regions. Australia-wide participation is growing rapidly with 2 male, 4 junior, 3 co-ed/mixed gender and over 55 all-female leagues.

From 7pm each Wednesday, starting from the 25th of April, Light City will be holding training sessions for skaters of all skill levels who want to get fit and become part of this exciting sport.
The intake will be held at LeFevre Community Centre in Osborne, and each new recruit will have the chance to learn from experienced male and female skaters.
Before this intake, an informal information session will be held at the Crown and Anchor on Grenfell Street at 7pm on Friday the 20th of April.

So strap your skates on and come and join us!
