ACO2
Riverside Theatres
Tuesday 28 September at 7.30pm
AcO2 is the precocious little sister of Australia’s finest orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Directed by the outstanding young Australian violinist Kristian Winther, the mesmerising AcO2 is performing at Riverside Theatres on Tuesday, 28 September. Presenting some of Australia’s finest young talent, AcO2 connects its talented young Australian musicians with the stars of the ACO, creating a combined ensemble with a fresh, energetic performance. The concert includes pieces from Bartok, Golijov, Bach, Vivaldi and Ledger.
“The role of the AcO2 in fostering young talent is supremely important and the musicianship of these fine young musicians leaves you awe-struck” said Director of Riverside Theatres, Robert Love.
“The concert includes some wonderful pieces from composers all over the world. The energy brought to the music by this bright ensemble is unmistakeable” continued Robert Love.
Bartok’s Divertimento, featured in film scores from Being John Malkovich to The Shining, is one of the most amazing pieces written for string orchestra. With the musicians standing symmetrically on stage, in stereo, you’ll be overwhelmed by this vigorous, imaginative music.
Golijov’s tango transports you to the steamy bordellos of Buenos Aires, while CPE Bach will have you bouncing along in your seat.
Astonishing recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey plays one of Vivaldi’s joyful concertos and a piece written specially to show off her prowess.
This trans-generational group of wandering minstrels gave new life and energy to some age-old pieces of music in their robust performance.
