About the Speaker

Steve Swernofsky is a patent attorney, educated at MIT (S.B. 1977) and UCLA School of Law (J.D. 1985). His work includes research in computer security and computer networking, after which he attended law school and worked for a large litigation law firm (Lyon & Lyon), enforcing Intellectual Property and, where applicable, resisting enforcement, in court. He was also General Counsel for a biomedical startup (Somnus Medical) for a period of time. He currently manages a small-size boutique law firm (Swernofsky Law Group PC) specializing in Intellectual Property, with approximately 10 employees and independent contractors, and a wide variety of experience in different types of technology. His law firm distinguishes itself for excellent quality work, and for correlating its legal practice with the business case (and possible future litigation posture) for each company's Intellectual Property; i.e., it is a law firm which seeks to produce positive ROI on legal dollars spent by the company, rather than just being a cost item. Mr. Swernofsky lives in Palo Alto with his four children (including three teenagers!) and has a wide variety of experience in non-lawyer activities, including having been a general aviation pilot, futures trader, and (still) an angel investor.
