423 Rancho Santa Fe Rd
ENCINITAS, California

Abie’s Irish Rose" represents classic vaudeville ethnic humor taken to a new level to reflect second and third generation concerns and aspirations of Irish and Jewish America. Abraham Levy (Abie) met Rosemary Murphy in a hospital in France during World War I. She was working at a field hospital as a nurse when he was admitted with wounds suffered while serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. Despite their religious differences, they fall in love and get married (by a Baptist minister). Hilarity ensues when the couple comes home to meet their perspective in-laws!

In our ever prevailing desire to make a home for the theatre, we have decided that Encinitas is the place to be. The community as a whole has welcomed us with open arms and we are hopeful that the children’s theatre can find a permanent residence among its inhabitants. Our first problem has been to find a suitable production space, but that’s only part of the problem, we also need to find a suitable rehearsal space. What would be really wonderful is to be able to perform and rehearse all in the same spot. This offers us the opportunity to give the children time to develop their characters in one spot, so that they might be able to play with and expand upon that situation without the trauma of moving to a whole new environment that changes just as they are about to perform. It is our great hope and desire that The Olivenhain Meeting Hall is just such a place. No promises yet, but things are looking hopeful. Abie’s Irish Rose will be our first rune there as a performance and if the gods are willing we shall be auditioning for, rehearsing with and performing St. Joan in this wonderful community spot!
