Composer and clarinetist Aaron Novik performs his new album Secrets of Secrets (Tzadik 2012), a metal jazz journey that fuses Kabbalah, contemporary classical compositions, rock elements, and world music. The composer’s latest work is an exploration into the roots of Jewish mysticism through the writings of Eleazar of Worms, a mystic, scholar, and rabbi who explored hidden meanings in the sacred Jewish texts using gematria (Hebrew numerology).
Novik is joined by a large ensemble including Carla Kihlstedt and Irene Sazer, violin; Mathias Bossi, drums; Theresa Wong, cello; Dina Maccabee, viola; and Lisa Mezzacappa, bass.
