Bede Sheppard, an international human rights expert, will be speaking on the increasing problem of attacks on schoolchildren, teachers and educational buildings across the world. A reception starts at 6 p.m., followed by a talk and discussion at 7:30 p.m.

As part of the event, A2Ethics.org is sponsoring an universal symbol design exhibit, which is open to students, teachers and residents of Washtenaw County. We are urging students and residents to create an universal symbol that signals to security forces and to others in the vicinity of an educational building that it is a no-violence sanctuary and thus should not be attacked (similar to the medical facility symbol or cultural property symbols). More details about submitting a design are on the A2Ethics.org website:
http://www.a2ethics.org/protecting-education-from-attack. The deadline is Sunday, October 10, 2010 – designs will be exhibited in the lobby of the Campbell Center at Greenhills School.
